Edit Venue

The Edit Venue screen is used to define the stage and audience areas of a performance space.

When a new venue is initiated (see AIMClosed Array Installation Modeling (AIM) is a QSC System Navigator prediction tool used for visualization of array coverage in a scaled, graphical model of a venue or installation space. AIM also provides dimensional and weight data for an array as well as pick-point recommendations. Files), a single column of Audience Area fields is displayed.

  • Area Name – Select this field to enter or edit a name for the area.

Note: SysNav does not accept autocomplete entries from iPadOS devices as these can contain characters that are incompatible with SysNav.

  • Left End (X) – Select to enter the horizontal distance from the origin point to the left-most point of the area using the keypad (See below).

  • Left End (Y) – Select to enter the elevation of the area’s left end.

  • Right End (X) – Select to enter the elevation.

  • Right End (Y) – Select to enter the vertical distance from the origin point to the right-most point of the area using the keypad (See below).

  • Incline – When Left and Right End X and Y values are entered, this field will display the slope of the area. If the area has a known incline, that value may be entered here. AIM will do a calculation and adjust the Right End (Y) value.

  • Ear Height – The dropdown menu provides options for the elevation of the listeners' ears (shown in the model as a blue dashed line, parallel to the audience area).

    • Seated – 3.5 feet, 1.1 m

    • Standing – 5 ft, 1.5 m

    • Not Used – Ear Height is not displayed.

  • Remove

    • Area 1 – Resets all fields for Area 1 to default settings.

    • Areas 2 - 5 – Removes the associated area from the venue graphic and deletes all of the Area fields.

  • Remove All – Resets area 1 field to default settings, removes other area input fields and associated venue objects.

  • + – Adds an area to the model. SysNav supports up to 5 audience areas.

Coverage Model

The Coverage Model (lower half of screen) is displayed in Edit Venue and Edit Array modes.

  • Auto SplayClosed The angle between two adjacent loudspeakers in an array. - Sets box-to-box splay angles and array tilt to optimize coverage for the specified array and array position.

  • SPL Graphic Display - Displays the predicted sound pressure level for the modeled venue and array. The color of the traces corresponds with the color of the corresponding area. The expand/collapse button (described below) will provide a higher resolution display.

  • SPL Frequency - Selects the frequency used for the SPL calculation.

    • The selected frequency is the center of a 3 octave range that is used for the calculation.

  • Array Position Icon - Depicts the position of the array in the model. The array may be dragged to change its location. The array’s on-axis “beams” may be dragged to adjust the Array Tilt Angle.

  • View Controls

    • Venue Depth - Adjusts the depth of the model. The feature allows the model to make best use of the window.

Note: The model will automatically resize to accommodate a vertical (Y) change to the array position.

    • SPL Graph - Conceals or reveals the SPL Graph.

    • Rulers - Conceals or reveals the horizontal and vertical venue rulers.

    • Array Position - Conceals or reveals the array position callouts in the model. These are indicated by solid white lines and are used to indicate…

      • Horizontal and vertical distance from the model origin points to the array datum point.

      • Vertical distance from the array datum point to the surface of the area directly below the array (flying arrays only).

    • X/Y Clearance - Conceals or reveals the X/Y position callouts in the model. These are represented by dashed yellow lines and are used to indicate…

      • The distance between the rearmost point of the array and the leftmost point of the model.

      • The distance between the lowest point of the array and the surface of the area directly below the array.

    • Coverage - Reveals or conceals two dotted lines at the top and the bottom of the array coverage graphic. These lines represent the nominal vertical coverage and will be positioned 7.5° off axis to the bottom and top-most array member loudspeakers.

  • Expand / Collapse - The Venue model, rulers and SPL graph may be expanded to occupy the full width and height of the screen (as shown below) and display an SPL graph with a greater range and higher resolution.

Keypad

The keypad is used for entry of numeric values. It appears whenever a value field is selected. The keyed-in value is entered into the AIM model when the Enter key is touched or clicked. If the device that’s running SysNav has a keyboard, it may also be used for numeric value entry. Other controls include:

  • Nudge – Increments or decrements the displayed value by a fixed amount.

  • Fine – Toggles the Nudge value between course and fine steps.

  • Default – Enters the default value (if any) into the selected field.

  • Undo – Returns a keyed-in value to its previous state.

  • Redo – Reverses the action of the Undo button.

  • Copy – Copies the displayed value.

  • Paste – Keys in the most recently copied value.
